Amsterdam V Tilburg
Hello,Tue Jan 20, 2009 11:07 AM I am about to apply to both Amsterdam Uni and Tilburg for the LLM in EU Business Law and I am looking for some insight into the two. Can anyone advise as to the reputation of either Uni and the reputation of either program? Thanks! |

Just take a look for yourself at both websites and you will find that the UvA ( where I do my LLB right now ) is about EU law and public organizations, whereas UvT is more real business. I'm going there next year, that is the UvT, because it will prepare you for and truly international carreer, where you also do Delaware law, US securities etc. And UvT is best ranked in the Dutch. So UvA master you wanne do is more 'institutional' kinda law, and not the real deal you read in FT everyday!

Thanks for your response. I thought (from looking at the University guide in the Times - www.topuniversities.com/worlduniversityrankings/re…) that Amsterdam was the best NL Uni followed by Leiden and Utrecht. In fact, on that table...Tilburg is not listed which as put me off a little bit.

I went to Groningen on the ERASMUS pragram and, although I had an amazing time and the city/people are lovely, the standard is not great at all. As for ERASMUS, I believe tuition alone is €10,000+ where as Amsterdam is about €1500 and both universities at the same level.

yeah that ranking isn't relevant man. Just take compare the subjects in all the Eu/Int Business Law programs from all dutch unies. I have been doing that for 6 months and I gotta till you that from a content point of view and what I want to learn, which is real international BUSINESS law, about how they operate on international level and manage their money, UvT is the one. I havent applied jet, but maybe UvT will be my choice in the Dutchies.

I agree, ranking is not everything. However, we do LLM's in order to progress and many international firms will be concerned with rankings. I read a post the other day where a lady had studied her LLM in Ghent and loved it. The teaching and course was great BUT when she applied for a job in Brussels, she received 10 rejections (from 10 applications). This is what has worried me and this is why I am focusing a little more on the reputation and ranking.

I get what your saying. I totally have the same issues you have everyday. I am currently at UvA LLB and I know they have a better reputation internationally than lets say UvT. What do you think about the content of both programs; Wed Jan 21, 2009 07:11 PM UvA; studiegids.uva.nl/web/uva/sgs/nl/p/849_sce_3045.ht… UvT; www.tilburguniversity.nl/prospectivestudents/maste… If I look at each subject and then at the broader picture I think that UvT is much more corporate and less institutional ie european, hence the difference in the names of the masters. UvA is merely European, which I dont think is smart to focus on primerly. EU is nice but the World is nicer.. At UvT you also get EU but also Delaware and others. |
