Hi HiWed Apr 22, 2009 06:22 AM The Balliol offer came through without prompting by email from me. I've only sent one email to either Uni - to Cambridge to find out when I could expect the paperwork. Balliol asked me to accept/reject within one month so that they could make offers to others if I reject. That suggests to me that the next round of college offers for Oxford could be around 4 May? Incidentally I have accepted Balliol. |

well i dont think that comes as a huge surprise, does it? i mean, Balliol is one of the most reputed colleges there (esp for the BCL). Just hope I get a good college too!Wed Apr 22, 2009 06:40 AM What about scholarships... apart from Clarendon, news from anywhere else? or has Balliol decided on its scholarships? |

Ahhh there's a subject that brings a tear to my eye - scholarships.Wed Apr 22, 2009 06:50 AM There's not many out there compared to those available for other disciplines or people doing PhD's. Presumably the world has enough lawyers... Strangely enough I know of a couple of people that got scholarships but no offers. And people like me with offers but no scholarships. My father asked me which selection process was flawed (?). He has a strange sense of humour. Oxford Australia is due out in May apparently. Not sure if you're Aussie... Balliol College scholarships don't look like they have opened for the 2009/10 academic year. But I stand to be corrected? The situation could be the same for other colleges that have scholarships which are not Clarendon linked. I'm currently doing creative begging rounds - old highschool, the firm, rich distant cousins of cousins... something about a recession??? sigh. |

lol. It seems you've successfully inherited your sense of humour from your dad! :)Wed Apr 22, 2009 07:01 AM i'm Indian... and its painful to hear (even though you hopefully stand to be corrected) that Balliol might not open their scholarships for the year... particularly because my preferences (Balliol and Lincoln) were solely based on the aid the colleges provided to Indian/law students. But then, i'm not too worried (thankfully) about the monetary aspect, because last week I got the Commonwealth Scholarship for Oxford. So currently all my prayers are focussed towards the college... |

Sorry - I may have given the wrong impression! I think the Balliol scholarships have not yet opened for 2009/10, not that I think they won't open. I suspect they'll confirm numbers at the college and then open the scholarships.Wed Apr 22, 2009 07:07 AM Grats on the Cth Scholarship! Australia's Cth Scholarship scheme was stopped last year by the British government. (sob) It was only reinstated for PhD applicants. I'm sure you'll get your first choice college - and either way, hey, you're going to Oxford and you have some funding. Life could be a lot worse right? ;) I know people here that go into debt for more than the cost of an Oxford degree just to buy a car. Going into debt to invest in yourself does not seem like such a bad thing in that context. Especially considering that you are unlikely to depreciate in value. :))) |

well put. definitely things could be a lot worse. quite unbelieveable to have gotten into Oxford, and ofcourse the schol. Pity that they stopped it for you guys... guess thats the advantage of being in a "developing" nation, rather than a "developed" one!Wed Apr 22, 2009 07:12 AM where are you from in Australia? follow cricket? |

We're still developing if you ask me. Loads of areas for improvement... Oh well. ;)Wed Apr 22, 2009 07:23 AM I'm in Sydney. Do follow cricket kinda. Kinda like I follow basketball and rugby union. Although I am quite partial to a beer on the couch in summer watching Simmons hammer out 6's. |

Yeah, thanks OffiGo. Good news that Cambridge offers have not been finalised yet. THE ‘MAYBE’ GROUP I guess that there are many of us placed by Cambridge into the 'maybe' group-meaning-haven't received email offers in Feb/March nor rejections as a result of their first application review stage, where the applications that clearly do not meet academic requirements were rejected. What I think has been happening for some time now (since the beginning of March) is that the candidates in the 'maybe' group are being placed against each other and offers are gradually being made as evidenced by the information on their website. I was contacted by Ms Wade in late February to send some additional documentation which I sent to her in March. I was also advised that my application is 'currently' being considered-(February). Presumably, there were more of you in the same boat, and they just wanted to have full information on all of us in order to rank us against each other within ‘the maybe’ group. I do think that many offers to the best applicants in the ‘maybe’ group have already been made, presumably starting in March. And it would seem unlikely that very many offers are still to be made this late, although it is great to hear that apparently some email offers are still to come. MORE APPLICATIONS THIS YEAR On the other hand, my friend who also applied to Oxford (M.Jur) told me that they had 33% more applications than in the previous years. If the same applies to Cambridge, there may well be some offers to be made, although no one (apart from Cambridge) knows how many. ANY OFFICIAL KNOWN REJECTIONS SO FAR? Given the above, I would be interested to learn if you know of someone who was officially rejected in March/April and found out via Cambridge self-service. It seems to me that people from our ‘maybe’ group found out about their rejections only if they emailed/phoned Ms Wade, and therefore there are very many of us who have not heard either way. Anyway, do you know from previous years whether people found out about their rejections via Cambridge self-service before May? BACK-UP and RATING: PS: If you had a back-up how would you rate LSE, UCL, and KCL in terms of Banking/Corporate/Insolvency specializations? PRACTICALLITY OF OXFORD HIGHER THAN LSE,UCL, KCL?: And also can M.Jur/BCL course at Oxford (whose curriculum definitely sounds veeeery academic to me) compare with LSE, UCL and KCL-(again banking, corporate, insolvency subjects) in terms of usefulness for a modern magic circle firm lawyer? I do understand that Oxbridge has the prestige and LSE/UCL/KCL are all a way beyond in terms of that. But I just wonder about practical implications of studying at Oxford, can the quality and practicality of the course compare to LSE/UCL/KCL(apart from prestige)? Any recent Oxford graduates here? What is the course like? |

My Camsis updated just now. Basically just shows I have an offer and it's dependent on financial liability and college membership. And I'm mildly annoyed that they also expect me to do an English language test! Good grief people. I am an English-speaking white South African - I have to wonder if they ask Canadians and Australians to take the test as well?Thu Apr 23, 2009 12:40 PM No word on scholarships or college membership yet. |

HeyThu Apr 23, 2009 12:55 PM I called the LLM admissions last Friday and was told that @by this time next week@ (namely tomorrow) ALL the offers should be set and a final decision will be made regarding ALL the applications. Hopefully this helps. Mine still hasn't been updated and no email was received, literally - no connection:) |

conditions of offer
A quicker way to find out the conditions of your offer is to call Ms. Wade and ask rather than wait for Camsis to be updated. She is very helpful and will either email the conditions the same day or tell them over the phone!

Cambrige offer conditions
Hello everybody!Thu Apr 23, 2009 06:30 PM Got an offer from Cambridge. My CamSIS has been updated today, though I already received an e-mail notification in February. However, I have to meet several conditions, especially the English Language conditions. I already took an IELTS Test and exceeded the minimum requirement in each module - except Speaking: only got 6.5! This is really exasperating... Anyone knows how Cambridge deals with results that are so close to the required minimum? I just made an "Enquiry on Results" and am now asking myself if this might be successful. Has anyone experienced such an Enquiry? Greetz from Germany |

Fri Apr 24, 2009 07:24 PM Hey So tired with the waiting for the admission result. The worst process I've seen!! The Admission Office pays attention only to those who was admitted. Not reply any email to us who eagerly want to know the result, even if probably rejected. |

Hello everyone. Like others before me I have been following this thread for a number of weeks now but this is my first post. Fri Apr 24, 2009 07:43 PM I received my conditional offer for Cambridge from Ms. Wade on February 17th. However, my Camsis still hasn't been updated and I obviously haven't gotten the official documents by post yet (I believe no one in this forum has....) Is any one in the same situation, i.e. has been waiting for over 2 months for the conditions of their offer. I am mostly concerned about the academic conditions of my offer as I am in my final semester of Law School. I know some of you now know the conditions of your offer. For those of you who have stated that no academic conditions were attached, have you already graduated or will you be graduating in the next few months? If you did have academic conditions attached to you offer, what kind of conditions where they? Thanks and good luck to all who are still waiting! [Edited by CanadianLLM on 24 Apr 2009] |

Hi CanadianLLMSat Apr 25, 2009 01:36 AM I received my offer from Cam around the same time that you did. My camsis was updated last week or so with the conditions. I did not have any academic conditions, but I believe this is because I completed my law degree 2 years ago and so I would have already satisfied the requirements for a particular class of degree. I suspect that your offer may come with academic conditions since the academic requirements for Cam include a certain class of degree. Your camsis should be updated shortly, and when you receive the package will depend on your postal system etc. In the meantime you should work as hard as you can to get a first class, or the equivalent in your jurisdiction. Good luck on your finals. |

My CamSIS has been updated last week, and I've received the official offer pack a couple of days ago. Likewise, am in my final semester of my LL.B, and my academic conditions stipulate a First Class Honours for the LL.B. Hope it gives you some indication of your conditions...Sat Apr 25, 2009 07:58 AM Good luck! |

For those who applied to University College, Oxford, they have begun to send out offer letters via email. I did get confirmation last week based on my nudging them, but I received a second communication a few minutes ago with another copy of the same offer letter, so I assume they are doing the general announcements now.
