Dutch LLM and job perspectives
Tried to get some info about average salary of jurist / legal adviser in Netherlands, but what I found is a bit amazing. “Excellent renumeration – 3000 EUR in gross”. Is this true? Any dutch LLM-holder has a work experience in Netherlands?Wed Sep 03, 2008 10:43 AM thanks, |

Well, thats true, but work experience is also very important to get that salary. It also depends on where you work and what your background is. Starting salary for a jurist is never around € 3000 but around € 2000. Sat Sep 06, 2008 09:11 PM I don't have LLM, but have done my LLB from the University of professional education and I earn around 2200 p/m working a bit less than full-time. I have read the above posts and of interest to me is to know the average cost of living in the Netherlands, so that one can gauge how much would be saved from the starting salary as quoted above.Mon Sep 08, 2008 04:24 PM Secondly, how difficult / easy is it for an english speaking individual to obtain work in the Netherlands, for instance after obtaining a LLM in international taxation? I am planning to start my LLM in International Taxation in the 2009/2010 from any of the dutch universities offering the course. |

Average cost of living in the Netherlands is around €800 p/m. I don't know what your lifestyle is like but it is not very cheap out here but doable. See the following for more info:Mon Sep 08, 2008 06:18 PM www.amsterdamescape.com/cost_of_living.html Finding a job for an English speaking lawyer shouldn't be difficult at international law firms if you have good network and know where to look. Other than that, you can always find out more about it when you are here, from the people studying with you and mostly the university has a lot of information about the recruitment agencies which can help. Also try to search online. Here are some useful links for finding jobs for English speaking people: www.undutchables.nl/ www.jobinamsterdam.com/ www.xpatjobs.com/ As far as studying is concerned, I would suggest you to do that in Amsterdam as its a viberant city and you can meet new people easily who can help you out with things. Cost of living being a student is much lower (around €450 p/m) as the university provides accommodation which doesn't cost much compared to people who live on their own and are working. The salary you posted is not unthinkable here. The big law firms do offer that amount to starting lawyers. I think the highest paid salary by a law firm here is about E45.000,- a year. Living costs are not high if you're an average spender. The lowest salary from the top firms is E32.000,- a year. The middle and smaller firms have of course lower salaries but it all depends on what you've studied, your grades, your experience etc. Mon Apr 06, 2009 11:25 AM I know for a fact that tax lawyers make even more.. Hope this helped you! |
