Hi everyone,
I received so far three offers from King's, UCL and SOAS to study mainly international arbitration. I do hesitate between KCL and UCL. Does anyone could provide me with useful advice?
Furthermore, I'd like to know when the programs actually start in September.

If you are interested in international arbitration, why did you not apply to Queen Mary? If you can still apply I would apply to their international arbitration LLM program - it is very good.

Well, I have actually but still waiting for their answer.
The problem with Queen Mary is that it is not that well known abroad (i.e. at least in France) and I'm a bit reluctant to chose a uni without a strong reputation, even if a specific program is outstanding.
Otherwise, do you know where I could compare the different LLM specialised in arbitration (Internet, magazines, etc.)?

In the arbitration world Queen Mary is known to be one of the best. (Professor Loukas Mistelis is the head of the program there.) In France, especially Paris, I am certain they will know of the program at Queen Mary, especially given that Paris is the arbitration capital of the world.

That being said, if you are debating between the other uni's I would go to UCL - they have quite a strong international law program.

BTW, I just finished my LL.M. at NYU and am going to be practicing in international arbitration.

I fully agree with rah23.
The program offered by Queen Mary is considered as one of the best in the field of international arbitration. By the way, Pantheon Assas also offers a good program in Alternative Dispute Resolution in Paris.

Hello everyone! My name is Varad Deore. I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I am a third year law student of a College in Pune, India.

I am seriously considering specialising in International Commercial Arbitration. Could any of you guide me about the following:

1) Apart from the Geneva COnventions and the Indian Arbitration and Conciliation Act of 1996 which governs arbitration in India, what else do you guys suggest I read up in order to have the basic understanding of INternational Arbitration?

2)Which laws, apart from procedure codes of one's country, contract laws, business laws etc does one require to study along side Arbitration laws?

3)In general how are my job prospects at undergraduate level (considering I come from a college currently ranked at No. 19 in the top 25 colleges of the country) in this field if I do end up having some research papers etc. in the field?

Please reply ASAP.

Hello,

which job i could get after LLM international arbitration at queen mary? I'm a 26 yo italian trainee lawyer and i'd like to get an employment by a british law firm or company for a few years to to up my curriculum.....
what's your opinion?

hi everybody....

congrats persepolis on the offer letters.......i am even interested to apply for international arbitration in Kings and ULC.....i passed out my llb this yr with 64%. with quite a no. of credentials in my name. bt culd u tell me wat r the reference u used so that i could also enhance my chances.....i would really appreciate if you reply.
n i would also like to know that whether your high school n higher secondary marks count in llm admissions

Hi British LLMs are not great at all to get a job. They generally admit hundreds of students (eg, each year UCL takes in 300 LLM students and only 100 LLB students) and are snobbed by London firms who consider that you need to do 2 years GDL+LPC followed by two years traineeship to be a solicitor. UK LLMs are, however, better recognised abroad.

I would recommend doing a good US one and getting the NY bar. LLM/NY bar lawyers are not as highly regarded as the ones with a JD, but the situation is still better than in England. Some do get jobs in NY, unlike London where chances are near zero on the local market. And again, internationally, at a comparable academic level, US qualifications are better regarded than UK ones.
