Hi Kylie,

As far as I know, Trisakti University is one of the best 5 university which has international program on LLM. You can choose whether you are interested to join in international class which use english or you can choose regular program which use Indonesian.

Fyi, that will be great if you take a look on the University of Indonesia, this University has a good LLM program especially on International Law studies. It offers with english also.

Addition, you should also take a look on Islamic University Indonesia, it offers LLM program on business law studies. And in my opinion, this university has the best LLM program on business law studies in Indonesia. But, unfortunatelly, it does not offer an international program. But, I think that most of the lecturers have good capability to speak English. The location of this University is also amazing. Located in Yogyakarta (second tourist destination after Bali, off course). You can learn many things there. And greet with good looking Yogyakarta's citizen.
Wait you there....

Regards,

Farisa

Hi Farisa,
The Islamic University of Indonesia really sounds interesting (esp, since my future wife is from Yogyakarta)- I'm an American, about to enter law school in California. I'm wondering, after completing my 3 years of study here, would a obtaining an LLM from there- give me a good chance of getting hired to practice law in Indonesia or Malaysia? I'm thinking along the lines of shariah law, but anything will do, as long as I don't wind up working for a multinational, American firm...By the way, what are the average work hours like for a lawyer in Indonesia? Is it similar to the American 8am-8pm workday?
I'm just starting on my life so I'm trying to get as much info as possible.
Terima Kasih,

Obtaining an LLB at the us, doesn't mean you are qualified to practice as a lawyer in Indonesia. The law has stipulated that those who wish to practice as a lawyer (advocate) must obtain a permit from the Bar Commission.

As for LLM program in Indonesia, there are no LLM program in Indonesia. Master degree program offers only Magister hukum (translated as Master of Law) but cannot be recognized as LLM. According to Department of National Education in Indonesia, the best master of law program in Indonesia is at University of Indonesia, only this university offers a great methods of teaching and quality in Indonesia.

If i'm not mistaken, Islamic University of Indonesia is a private university, not a state owned university. In Indonesia, private university usually recognize as a 2nd class university, compare to the state owned university.

hi kylie,
i think, choosing Master of Law programme at Trisakti Univ. is not a best option since there are so many Law Faculty in Indonesia. if you are interested to join international class, you can choose Universitas Pelita Harapan (you cand find at www.uph.edu/academic-programs/graduate-master-prog…) .
but, in my opinion, Universitas Indonesia still have the best law faculty in South East Asia.
wish u all the best!
